The Night Owl is possibly the only purpose-built Northern Soul and Motown club around. Well over a year ago Richard Priest had a dream about running his own Northern Soul and Motown club, pitched his idea to some investors and Arith Liyanage fell in love with the concept. They then teamed up with local promoter Mazzy Snape and opened in July 2015 with Bar Manager Annabel Monkhouse (later to become Operations Manager) and Alan Green joining as the final piece in the puzzle.

The team have worked hard to not only realise Richard’s dream, but also to offer something truly unique that has a warm and friendly club which welcomes people of all ages and walks of life. We enlisted the wonderful Stax Creations to transform the interior.

It can be hard to get a new club going and almost one year later we’re still here! We were delighted after winning Brummie’s Choice Award for ‘Best New Venue’ (voted for by the public), and receiving congratulations from the Motown Museum in Detroit. What has really made us happy is the fantastic feedback we get from you, our customers, on a regular basis, there’s no greater feeling than looking across that dance floor and seeing all your smiling happy faces!
