Meet the Le Freak DJs: Sam Redmore

If you’re looking for a way to dance the worries away – look no further than Le Freak. Our monthly disco, funk, soul and boogie night plays the best in 60’s, 70’s and 80’s music thanks to our stellar DJ’s.

Meet Sam Redmore, a DJ who has been on the Birmingham scene for the last decade. Well known to those who frequent the Hare and Hounds in Kings Heath, The Dark Horse in Moseley and of course The Night Owl.

So, how did it all start for Sam? His older brother introduced him to rave music, exposing him to tape packs of live DJ mixes. “My brother bought himself a set of decks, which I used to sneak into his room and practice on when he was at work. Eventually I saved up and got some decks of my own, and it basically went from there.”

“I love all sorts of music – funk, soul, disco, afrobeat, latin, house, reggae, broken beat… I tend to move between different genres a lot when I play out.”

Although its the specialist nights like Le Freak where Sam can dig a bit deeper into his collection and pull out some forgotten gems: “I like to mix it up between styles, but I try to do it in a way that makes sense, and has a natural flow to it. The crowd at The Night Owl are always super-friendly, and really up for a good time. It’s never a struggle getting people on the dance floor!”

Those heading to Le Freak can expect the usual floor filling disco beats, alongside funk, soul and boogie thrown in for good measure. Sam has been on the hunt for a certain record for a while, and can’t wait to spin it especially for The Night Owl: “It’s a great early hip hop and disco crossover, “Nice & Nasty 3 ‘Ultimate Rap’ which I’ll be sure to have in the box at Le Freak.”
